Long Arm Quilting

We offer long arm quilting services. We have 2 machines and average approximately a 6 week turn-around time. We have a wide variety of pantographs and thread colors available for you to customize your quilt with. We also have over 100 bolts of 108" wide (or wider) fabrics to back your quilts.

Proper preparation of your quilt top is essential for a good result. Please use the following guidelines when getting your quilt ready to be machine quilted.

Quilt Preparation

1) The 3 layers of your quilt will be loaded on the machine independent of each other. Please do not pin or baste them together.
2) The batting and backing must measure at least 8 inches bigger than your quilt top. For example, if your quilt measures 60x80 then your batting and backing must measure at least 68x88.
3) Be sure the top lies flat. Ripples and puffy places will not necessarily quilt flat.
4) The quilt should be free of embellishments such as buttons, beads and patches.
5) Clip all loose threads and be sure that seams have been pressed.
6) Stitching 1/8" all around the perimeter of the quilt will insure that all edge stitches stay stitched. Check all your seams to make sure that you have sewn them all and that there are no holes in any seams. These areas may get caught by the rapid motion of the needle and cause tears in your quilt.
7) Please mark the top of your quilt top if it has a top and bottom. A safety pin with a small piece of paper labeled "top" will work perfectly.
8) Square the quilt top and quilt backing. Be sure to square up each section of your quilt top before adding another border.
9) Borders that are too long will not shorten with quilting and will cause your quilt to be mis-shaped and your designs may be distorted when finished. To make straight and appropriate sized borders use the guidelines below.
10) Bed sheets are not suitable for backing because of their thread count. They can cause skipped stitches, batting to poke through and needle breaks.
11) Cut selvage edges for seams that are part of your pieced backing before they are sewn. Selvage seams create extra bulk and can cause backing to pucker.
12) If using pieced backing, please sew the backing together prior to bringing your quilt in.
13) Our shop uses Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting. You may supply your own or we have others on a large bolt to choose from.

Borders

-Measure the quilt top from top to bottom at 3 different areas of the quilt and average these 3 measurements.
-Cut the 2 side borders at the same time with this average measurement to ensure that they are the same size.
-Pin the borders to the side of the quilt matching the middle of each of the borders to the middle of the quilt sides.
-Sew the side borders onto the quilt.
-Repeat the process for the top and bottom borders. Again cutting the top and bottom borders at the same time.

Pricing

We charge $0.017, $0.019 or $0.021 per square inch for edge to edge quilting. The variation in pricing depends on the density of the quilting. Most of our pantographs are $0.017 per square inch. We have over 100 edge to edge pantographs to choose from and will help you decide which one is best for your quilt.

To help you figure out a rough estimate of the price for your quilting first measure the length and width of your quilt. Then multiply the length by the width by the price per square inch.

For instance, if your quilt measure 100x100 you would multiply 100x100x0.017 to get $170 for the quilting.

There is an additional charge for the backing, batting and binding which depends on the size of your quilt.
